Itinerary

0700hrs: Drive from Nairobi to Nanyuki, meet the guide in town and have lunch enroute to the base of the mountain, where you will meet the porters and the cook. Full briefing of the hiking and equipment check. Later begin the hiking, which takes 3-4hrs through the forest, bamboo, and heather zones to old Moses camp (3,000 meters). AS you begin to acclimatize. Dinner and overnight at the Old Moses Camp

After early breakfast, you commence a 7-8 hrs trek to Shipton’s camp. You will ascent close to 900meters going up the surreal Mackinder valley with its strange vegetation of giant lobelia and groundsel, unique to equatorial African mountains. Dinner and overnight at Shipton’s hut.

0300hrs: Predawn start for summit attempt, and here you require a bright headtorch, If you manage, go up steep screes and bare rocky track to reach the hiker’s summit, point Lenana at 4,985 meters in time for sunrise. Later, you will start descending back to Shipton’s camp for hefty brunch then continue to descent to Old Moses camp arriving in another 5 hrs. Later proceed descending all the way to the Sirimon gate, where you will meet your driver, and proceed to Naivasha, arriving late afternoon or evening.
