Welcome to the Masai Mara
The Masai Mara National Reserve is undoubtedly Kenya’s most famous wildlife destination and one of the most celebrated game reserves in Africa. Covering 1,510 km² of open savannah in southwestern Kenya, it forms a continuous ecosystem with Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park. The reserve is named after the Maasai people who have inhabited the region for centuries, and whose traditional culture remains an integral part of the Mara experience.
The Mara is renowned for hosting the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth — the annual Great Migration — when over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra thunder across the plains from the Serengeti in search of water and pasture. With over 450 recorded animal species and more than 500 bird species, the Masai Mara offers unparalleled game viewing year-round.
