Welcome to Lake Nakuru

Lake Nakuru National Park, situated 160km northwest of Nairobi in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, is one of the world’s great ornithological spectacles. The shallow alkaline lake — at 188 km² — was once host to over a million flamingos, earning it the title “the greatest bird spectacle on earth.” While flamingo numbers vary with water levels, the park remains one of Kenya’s most visited and beloved wildlife destinations.

Beyond its famous flamingos, Lake Nakuru is also a critically important rhino sanctuary — both black and white rhinos are present and frequently sighted. The park’s diverse habitats include the lake shoreline, acacia and euphorbia woodlands, rocky cliffs, and open grasslands, making it a rich destination for both birders and general wildlife enthusiasts.
