Welcome to Meru National Park

Meru National Park, covering 870 km² in central Kenya, is one of the country’s most pristine and least-visited parks — a true wilderness experience free from the crowds of the Masai Mara. The park became internationally famous as the setting for Joy Adamson’s “Born Free” — the story of Elsa the lioness — and its wild landscape of riverine forest, open grassland, and rugged bush remains largely unchanged.

Meru harbours one of Kenya’s most important black rhino sanctuaries, carefully fenced and monitored to protect this critically endangered species. The park is also home to the Big Five, and with its 13 rivers — including the famous Tana River — offers exceptional wildlife concentrations. Passing the majestic snow-capped peaks of Mt. Kenya en route makes the journey itself part of the experience.
